Hancock Park
Hancock Park is a beautiful historic neighborhood which was developed in the 1920’s and the 1930’s. The official neighborhood stretches from Melrose Avenue on the north to Wilshire Boulevard on the south and from Highland Avenue east to Rossmore Avenue.
The surrounding neighborhoods of Larchmont Village, Windsor Square, Windsor Village and Fremont Place often refer to themselves as being in Hancock Park, even though they lie outside the official boundaries.
Outstanding architects of the era designed the palatial two-story, single family Hancock Park homes in various Period Revival styles (including Tudor, English, Spanish Colonial, Mediterranean, Monterey and American Colonial) for influential members of Los Angeles society.
There was a time when the neighborhood fell out of favor and some homes fell into disrepair and could be had for a song. Not any more…most Hancock Park homes have been renovated and updated with a strong guidance from the HPOZ that keeps the neighborhood in the style to which it is accustomed. Although there are still some fixers that hit the market now and again and represent a chance for new home owners to restore some American history, Hancock Park homes are an architectural jewel in the crown of Los Angeles and remain much in demand.
Hancock Park homes have long been sought after by many who work within Hollywood, most probably due to its close proximity to a handful of major television and film studios, notably Paramount Pictures. Hancock Park is also a desirable location for those that must commute downtown or to other main areas in Los Angeles County.
